Picnic in Ramat Gan

There was really only one "usable" day of chol hamoed this year. We went to Gannei Yehoshua in Ramat Gan with Granny and Grandpa, and Shlomo and Masha and family, and had a traditional barbeque like seasoned Israelis.

(Above:) Here you can see Granny getting driven by two of her grandsons on a double-tandem-like contraption they hire out there that is fiendishly difficult to pedal. (Below:) and here she is happily disembarking after a pleasant ride!

Here are some of the guys trying to get the barbeque to light...

And here we are at home after the last night of yomtov.

Around the hannukiah

Well, this picture would have been around the hannukah menorah if the menorah was in our living room.

One-Night Cactus Flowers

Simha was out with some friends when they spotted this beauty in an otherwise uninteresting local garden. One of her friends recognised it as a flower that would appear for one night only.
Simha told me about it excitedly when she came home, and we walked over to see it. There were about seven of these impessive flowers, each some 25 cm across. There were also two buds. When we went the next night the two buds were open and the other flowers had withered. On the third night (last night) they were all gone.
But they were beautiful while they lasted...

Summer 2006: French Alps

We stayed in a tiny town called Valfrejus in the Savoy district of the French Alps. The air was crisp and clean, and visually it was a bit like stepping into a picture postcard...

A few minutes walk from Valfrejus took one to this waterfall, and a path full of Alpine flowers and butterflies of many colours.

The 15-minute scenic "telecabine" ride followed by a half-an-hour walk took us to some beautiful panoramic views of the mountains around Valfrejus.

We drove to Geneva in Switzerland for the day.

The boys went to Paris for a couple of days with friends from the hotel.

St Germain is a picturesque town we passed through on the way to Mont Blanc.

Amazing waterfall in Aussois, half an hour's drive from Valfrejus.

The Cohens of Baker Street

This photograph is such fun I thought it would be a good start to our blog. This was taken during our holiday in London; in Baker Street a few doors away from, and just after our visit to, Madam Tussauds in Summer 2003.
